The IPA uses the fund to support the Gösta Bruce scholarship — travel awards for student members to present their research at the International Congress of Phonetic Sciences. Half of the scholarships awarded will be given to students carrying out research on prosody and half for research on other areas of phonetics. The scholarships will be distributed to students from a variety of countries, paying particular attention to applications from students working in countries where funding opportunities are limited.

For ICPhS 2011, 12 scholarships for the amount of 300 Euros were awarded. For ICPhS 2015, 20 scholarships for a total of 5000 Euros were offered. See this page for the announcement of the 2015 Scholarships and this page for the results.
